Why walkie talkie still doesn’t work after update

Walkie-Talkie does work for my Wife and I.


We first updated our iPhone's to iOS 12.4

Then we updated our Apple Watches to 5.3

And we were able to Walkie-Talkie again.


Initial setup it is very important that the iPhone be logged into FaceTime and that all interested parties can make a FaceTime call to the other interested parties, as Walkie-Talkie is just a Push-to-Talk FaceTime audio call.


I have also found that it helps if the interested parties have everyone's iPhone number in their Contacts AND that the phone number be tagged as 'iPhone' and not 'Mobile', nor 'Home', etc...

This fix/process does NOT work for me.


I have turned off Facetime and turned it back on, deleted walkie talkie contacts and re-added them, restarted both my Apple Watch and my iPhone to no avail. I have even unpaired and re-paired my Apple Watch and it still does not work.


I have spent 30 mins on a chat with Apple support but they were unable to offer any assistance, but they did try so thank you Apple Support.


I have a genius bar appt on Monday 5th August to see what the issue is.


This issue is not a problem with either my iPhone OR Apple Watch as a friend has the SAME issue, and yes we are on iOS 12.4 and WatchOS 5.3.
