FileVault activation in June 2016

In setting up a MacBookPro in June 2016, would the user have had to "uncheck" FileVault from the default setting? An article, https://www.intego.com/mac-security-blog/yosemite-filevault/ states that the FileVault default setting was active unless the user unchecked the FileVault box during setup. Is this article correct?

Filevault activation rejecting my administrator credentials Hello, I have a 2020 MacBook Air M1 (macOS 13.3.1) with two accounts = admin account + my personal user account (non-admin). I'm in my personal account and I'm trying to turn on Filevault. I'm at the initial stage where a pop-up appears asking me to enter my admin credentials. I did so... and the pop-up rejected it. I logged out and was able to successfully log into my admin account using the same credentials. What's going on? Thank you.

how does FileVault provide any more security than just my password? hi all :) can anyone please explain: how exactly does enabling FileVault provide any more security than simply having my mac set to require my user password upon waking (Automatic login off)? I mean, either way anyone can access my files as long as they have that one password, right? So why bother with the FileVault? Am i missing something?
