Mac Mini locks up during initial setup - mouse not connecting

Hi,

I have just bought a new Mac mini. I already have a wired keyboard and a bluetooth mouse from an old iMac that this device is replacing. I have plugged the keyboard into the Mac mini and powered up. It initially shows a mouse picture on screen but pressing the enter key on the keyboard gets me past that. Next it asks for my language which I select using the keyboard. Then it asks me for the country. At this point it seems to have locked up. I can't do anything with the keyboard so can't continue.

Should the mouse auto connect to the Mac mini? The keyboard and mouse work fine with my MBP. I see the mouse cursor in the top left corner of the screen but the mouse does not respond.

I would try a wired mouse but do not have one to hand.

Thanks

Andrew

It appears that your mouse is either not being properly recognized or is faulty. At this point, you will need to try a different mouse/keyboard, preferably wired ones to complete the setup of your new mini. You can try borrowing one from a friend or relative. Optionally, you can take your mini to your local Apple Store and they can assist you with the setup ... and verify the wireless mouse compatibility.

FWIW. With any Mac, having a "spare" wired keyboard & mouse will come in handy for just these types of scenarios. So would an Ethernet cable.
