Did it get overly hot while outside? Perhaps turn it off, let it sit for a day and then see if the screen returns to normal after a rest. If that doesn't solve it, I'd schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar for evaluation.

It sounds like due to the high heat of the sun your iPad’s display has been exposed to extended periods of extreme heat. There is nothing you can do to fix this. You can try restarting your iPad to see if possibly this is a software problem.
