Bluetooth not connecting after Mojave 10.14.6 Upgrade on MacBook Pro, (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015 Mid)

After the upgrade, my Bluetooth is not connecting to iPods, mouse, Bose stereo. I have tried all of the Methods for troubleshooting, https://macreports.com/mac-bluetooth-not-working-fix/ without any luck. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Please help.

I think I found a work around.

I went through all the normal restarts and resets including the SMC and shutting down the Wifi.

Tried the Debug command for Bluetooth. Didn't work the first time. then I did the following:

I stood on one leg, patted my head and....JK.

I unplugged all my peripherals, then...

  1. Held Shift+Option and click on the Bluetooth menu in the Mac menu bar.
  2. Clicked Debug and select Remove all devices.
  3. Clicked Debug again and select Reset the Bluetooth module.
  4. Restarted my Mac.
  5. Reconnect each of your Bluetooth devices.

When the Mac restarted this time, I could see number of items on the bluetooth menu, but it would not connect them or identify them at first. I removed each one, one at a time, from the Bluetooth preferences screen. Made sure all my bluetooth was off, then set them to pairing mode one at a time. It took a few moments, but the mouse was recognised, then the keyboard etc.

You might have to debug a few times. I think three ended up being the magic number for me.

If someone had time (I don't, and I'm right in the middle of a dissertation right now), we could probably compile a list of the computers that are having issues (or had) and look for same and different. Thats where the answer will lie. They machines that are affected will all have a common element (hardware, software, peripheral) something that doesn't play nice with the update. Sending that to Apple would likely help...or we can wait for those Silicon Valley boys and girls to figure it out on their own. Until then, auto updates are off and my computer is staying plugged in and on because I lose stuff when I power down.

Incidentally, anyone notice that the fan keeps spooling up a lot with this update? I wonder what the heck they did?

I am experiencing the same problem on an iMic 2017). I updated to 10.14.6 yesterday and the fun started. My bluetooth keyboard was working (not all function keys). My Magic Mouse (gen 1) that was working partially (scrolling didn't work). After switching the mouse off and on, it was gone. The Mac hasn't moved. I have tried removing the plist and resetting smc and nvram. Debugging doesn't work since my icons in preferences and menubar are gone (bar indicates "Bluetooth: Not available" but keyboard is still working????).

I have the same Bluetooth module as mpdude and fibre junky. It is my belief that as our issues started immediately following the 10.14.6 update one of two things has occurred:

Apple committed an oversight and failed to properly address the BCM2045A0 code requirements in the update and not enough of those modules exist for them to rewrite the code to help out,

Or, in much the same way that Apple was rightly accused of installing malicious code in iPhones that slowed down performance (https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/dec/29/apple-apologises-for-slowing-older-iphones-battery-performance), they have now deliberately installed code that negatively affects MBPs with the same chip.

In a really freaking weird coincidence (and I don't believe in those at all), my bluetooth...which had been nonfunctioning and unresponsive to revival efforts as I started to write this post...has inexplicably started working again, ALL ON ITS OWN.

Apple is becoming more and more like Microsoft (Windows) these days. Heard bad things about Catalina so don't want to update yet and 10.4.6 definitely has broke the bluetooth. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)/ 3.1 GHz Intel Core i7 and the bluetooth stopped working. I can't connect Apple's own "beats" headphones! What a shame.

I have tried all the options listed above and it did not fix my problems. I even went so far to reinstall 10.4.6 thinking the update might not have worked properly the first time but no luck.

Thankfully my logitech mouse works with the unified receiver otherwise I would have to trash this machine as I can't work without a mouse.

Can anybody say if...

  • this can be fixed by having the Bluetooth hardware module replaced
  • can be prevented by upgrading from a pre-10.14.6 version directly to Catalina
  • either one of these options leaves the Bluetooth module vulnerable to some kind of security issue (which were, to my understanding, to be addressed by the update in question)?

WBCotton,

As one of the first repliers to this thread and the only one who has found a no-cost solution, are you still having success with the Catalina upgrade? That is reason enough to make me upgrade but, only if it will resolve the Bluetooth issue.

Has anyone else experienced the same success with the Catalina upgrade?

Please let me know because I still feel like I am in a... teenage wasteland.

Thanks BishMusic1959,

I have been using a Logitech USB mouse as well. The two other major issues I have are 1) not being able to use my iPods to connect to MacBook (yes, I have pulled out my headphones from the 80's and plugged into the stereo port, but **** that cord which gets in the way of my typing, and 2) wireless connection to my Bose sound system for the my MacBook does not work (I now connect 1 small speaker through stereo port but, I am tired of pulling the speaker off the shelf every time I take my MacBook for a walk. Of course, unplugging will resolve that but,...

...The Kids Are NOT Alright)

Any other Catalina success stories are welcomed. I would love to hear if that is a true resolve.
