I have an IPad Pro. All of a sudden, when I try to launch the message icon, it flashes then goes back to just the icon. Do you think it is an Apple software problem or one with my AT&T service?

Try this: Double tap the home button to bring up the app switcher. Swipe up the apps including the message app upwards to fully close them. Then tap the home button to go back to home screen. Try to open the message app and see if it opens.

Press and hold both the home and power buttons until the Apple logo appears. Release both buttuns. Wait until your iPad starts on it's own.
If it's a new iPad Pro without a home button press and hold both the power button and a volume button.
Actually if it's the new Pro models with FaceID:
Press and quickly release volume up button
Then press and quickly release volume down button
Then press and keep holding the power button until you see the Apple Logo
Mine is an older version without face recognition. I have done the press both buttons to shut off then restart without success. It sounds like I need to have Apple look at it. Thanks so much for your suggestions
Have you tried a hard reset of your iPad?
I rebooted it but I don’t know how to do a hard reset. Should I take it to Apple store? I don’t want to lose anything on it. I’m not tech savvy!
Thanks for the clarification.
Anytime.
You're welcome. Try rbrylawski's suggestion before heading to the Apple Store. Good luck.
