I need to delete over 2,000 pictures from my phone. They problem is I use iCloud and it seems that deleting the pictures from my phone will delete them from all devices. how can I delete them from my phone only? Thanks.

Using the iCloud Photo Library, this is not possible.
It is a syncing service, not off device storage. The design is to keep your photos the same between all of your subscribed devices.

For what you want to do, you need a different cloud based solution such as Dropbox, OneDrive, or Flicker.
