rapid noise coming from MacBook Air 11"
Noise sounds like something pressing on keyboard - quite loud and fast. Have tried rebooting and presently backing up HD before exploring further. Any ideas?

It sounds like you may have a stuck key on the keyboard. This is just a guess from your description since I haven't heard the sound.
You can try running the Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics depending on the age of your laptop to see if you may have a fan issue although it may not detect some types of failures.
You can always take your laptop to Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider to be examined.

Hi,
Isn't it sound of swelling battery?
You'd better check your battery by opening bottom case.
