Apple Dictation

I'm trying to transcribe a long manuscript which was recorded using an external digital recorder. Can I somehow get Apple Dictation to turn this into text, or do I have to do a live recording through the mic?

Thanks for any help!

Apple Dictation works only through the microphone, so you will have to play the recording and hope that Dictation doesn't go berserk attempting to interpret it. There are two modes for Apple Dictation: 1) default, where every word is transmitted to Apple servers and then sent back as text, or 2) Enhanced dictation which is done locally and probably the only effective means of hearing the transcript and transcribing it to text in your document. This will still be a long shot.
