Sounds like you have installed Adware.
You might have been tricked into installing it, but you voluntarily installed it.

Malwarebytes free version did not impact Search Marquis on my macbook air running OS X14.6 . Do you have another suggestion?
Besides Barney's great advice...
EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report...
Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck.
Try the manual instructions.
Etrecheck may point it out.
Also, after you ran Malwarebytes did you restart and re-choose your preferred search engine in your browser preferences?
Waded my way through the manual instructions and that did the trick. Checked the preferred browser - that seeing was fine.
Thank you for your help.
Your welcome. Glad it's sorted.
