2 Mac's to a Promise Pegasus RAID

I have a 2012 iMac and a 2019 MacBook pro, I want to connect them to a Promise Pegasus 2 RAID external drive that has 2 thunderbolt ports, and be able to access the Promise Pegasus 2 RAID files from either Mac. I will be getting the USB C to Thunderbolt 2 adaptor for the MacBook to be compatible.

Would this cause any issues for either Mac or the Pegasus?

Thanks

The Pegasus2 will connect natively to your 2012 iMac. Your new MacBook Pro will definitely need the adapter:

This will work fine but you can expect thunderbolt2 speeds on your thunderbolt3 connection of the 2019 MacBook. The assumption is that you will gracefully unmount then physically disconnect/connect to the respective host (not simultaneously) using HFS+ on the Pegasus. HFS+ does not allow simultaneous access (local filesystem).

Hi,

With regards to "My current approach is to plug one in at a time then power up the Pegasus." Absolutely! you cannot connect both hosts simultaneously. It's not supported. I wrote "the assumption is that you will gracefully unmount then physically disconnect/connect to the respective host (not simultaneously) using HFS+ on the Pegasus. HFS+ does not allow simultaneous access (local filesystem)." Nor the Pegasus supports this.

Thanks

Thanks Pegasus

I got the adaptor and tested it, unfortunately I can't leave both TB 2 plugs in the back of the Pegasus as after I dismount from one (say the iMac) and then start up my MacBook, there is no way to "mount" the Pegasus, I have to shut it down and restart it for it to mount.

It also does something weird when both plugs are in and its turned off, when I start up one of the Mac's the power light comes on and flickers orange, and does not do anything more.

Please note that I have to eject the Pegasus from Finder, and then power it down after a session, as the power off when I put a Mac to sleep does not work anymore, it stopped working consistently after one of the Pegasus updates - I have checked the settings in the Mac under hard drive sleep etc and i have contacted Pegasus re this previously.

My current approach is to plug one in at a time then power up the Pegasus.

Thanks for the help
