replacing ipod under warranty

If my ipod nano is frozen, how do I get its serial number to send it back to apple for repair? I purchased a refurbished ipod on May 11, 2019 and it has never worked well. I need to mail it to Apple for repair, but all the repair sites need a serial number. What should I do?
