Passcode glitch

I was using the "play sound" feature of "find my iPhone" on my girlfriend's phone, when suddenly her passcode was reset, could "find my iPhone" cause this?

Not by just using the "Play Sound" feature. You must have managed to have enabled "Lost Mode" to lock her phone.
