I'm just about to the end of my rope with this proximity sensor issue. I will be ordering the Droid X in about 18 hours at this point since Apple hasn't changed their story on (or officially acknowledged) this problem since it was first recognized on June 23. That is completely unacceptable. I do not reward lousy customer service by waiting around and hoping that a company will do the right thing and correct a faulty product. As soon as my number is ported over to Verizon, I will be returning the iPhone 4 to my local AT&T corporate store for a full refund. End of story. You screwed up, Apple. Shame on you for not having the gonads to admit it!

Taking mine back tomorrow and cancelling the contract, no point getting a replacement until they fix the problem.

I hope Apple releases a software fix or says something publicly soon (like today) or I feel they will be getting a lot of returns. None of these "quick fix" resets are working permanently.

    Im returning mine Friday.
BUt I do have a question. My receipt from Apple says return date of July 17th which is only 14 days from when I bought it...what happened to 30 days?

I guess I do not understand. The original thread was stopped, because it was slowing things down and very large. Another thread has more posts than the original proximity sensor post did and yet it has not been locked.

I tried to use my phone last night and it was going crazy in my ear. I did not even have to move it. I was standing and could trun from left to right. The display would activate and the actual Iphone 4 position on my ear was not moving.

I don't get it either Shannon. Sounds like crap to me. Anyway, still doing all kinds of neat things with my face during calls. facetime, mute, writing text messages, adding contacts. all sorts of multitasking. It's awesome. Thanks apple. Your continued silence is appreciated.

Still having the problem. Wonder if there's any truth to the "silent recall" theory that's floating around out there.

I also wonder who will take the time to see this topic, and subscribe to it.

I love my iPhone 4. LOVE IT. But I can't live with the proximity sensor problem. That's a deal-breaker for me... Just is.

It would be very helpful is Apple would at least acknowledge this as an issue. They are watching this discussion.

I wonder why they don't say anything. I will never be an early adopter of any Apple product ever again.

They acknowledged it's an issue when I called to get a replacement phone... They are looking into why some phones do it and some don't, they have had a number of complaints.

IMHO, I don't think Apple knows what the issue is yet, so they are keeping their mouth shut.

I'm returning mine tonight. I asked the same question, more than once and was told it is 30 days.

If it is, in fact, true that once you agree to take a replacement for the iPhone 4, you are unable to return the phone for a full refund, the cynical side of me says that Apple is offering replacements to keep from having to pay out massive amounts of refunds. The thought of that makes me very angry -- especially since it seems that Apple is not going out of its way inform people that they will lose the ability to return the phone for a full refund once they take the replacement that more than likely won't fix their problems.

I'm so glad I've been monitoring these threads and that many people were reporting that once you accept a replacement, you lose the ability to return the phone for a full refund. That really saved me.

I really don't have anything better to do with my time then constantly keeping an "i" on this thread and other blogs about the PS issue. In fact, if and when this gets fixed I'm a bit scared as to what I'm going to do with myself. ...hummm maybe then I'll start asking questions as to why when I take a photo using the flash everything that should appear white turns out to be yellow. ...maybe I just like to complain and will never be happy ...thanks Apple for giving me something to do all day, you're the best! Based on what others have said on this board, you will have 30 days to return the phone to Apple for a refund and will not have to pay a restocking fee (regardless of what it says on the receipt.)

Official Apple statement here. At the bottom they make the statement about the return policy.

I suggest you print the open letter before they delete that "thread" as well. Lol.
