restoring a dead macbook as an account on an iMac?

My macbook died a few days ago and I'd like to use a Time Machine backup to revive it as an account within our family iMac. Is there a way to do that without disturbing the files in other accounts used by other family members? If not, is there a way to get itunes songs and photos off the Time Machine external drive and onto the iMac?

Sure. Use Migration Assistant, and select only that User Account. Be sure to de-select all the other options, because they will be selected by default.

Minor caveat: if the User Account you wish to migrate bears a name identical to one of the User Accounts already created on your family Mac, you will need to provide a different name for it. Migration Assistant will let you know that Account "needs attention".
