I just got a new iPad and the volume icon won't go away. It's irritating to me but my autistic niece finds it worse than annoying-she screams and cries as though the world were ending. I've tried shutting it down and restarting. I've tried pushing volume down and power button to reboot and it goes away for a bit but it always returns. Does anyone know why this is happening or how to stop it permanently.

It sounds like to me that either the volume button is jammed. Are you using a case on your iPad? If so are the volume buttons being depressed whenever the case is installed? Has the iPad been dropped? Is there any gunk or debris causing the volume buttons to be depressed?
