Why am I being asked to update my payment method on Apple for my iCloud storage? The thing is it’s showing the card for my brother’s account. We have family sharing with Apple Music from his account. But I have my own bank account for my own purchases including payment for my iCloud storage.

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to use your payment method for iCloud storage. Since you mentioned you use Family Sharing and an Apple Music Family subscription, this requires the family organizer's be the payment method, but you can use App Store & iTunes Gift Cards to pay for your iCloud storage or you can also share iCloud storage with your brother and here is more info:
