Disabled Ipad

My Ipad is disabled because someone tried to enter the incorrect password to many times. The ipad says "Ipad is disabled connect to itunes". When I connect to Itunes it says it can not connect until I enter the password on the ipad - however I do not have the option to enter the password because it says connect to itunes. Also I do know my password.

Start here: If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

Note: Make sure you have iTunes 12.8.x or above for Mac, or iTunes 12.9.x or above for Windows.
