10.9.5 not allowing upgrade

I have read through all the posts regarding 10.9.5 and to review the compatibility of the Mac. I have an imac (early 2009) (imac9,1) and meets the system requirements. However, I am not showing "install" or "installer" in my applications. Is there another way to be able to upgrade? The Itunes store does not show me any updates being available.

Help please. (The reason for doing this is a monitoring app for my kids' phones) and it requires the newer version of itunes which can only run on a higher OS it seems...

FWIW, You can only upgrade to El Capitan assuming you have 2GB or RAM.
