iMac update download speed

iMac update downloads take an extraordinary amount of time on WiFi.

I was told to use an Ethernet cable which would be much faster.

Yup, it is. Way faster. Considering that an update, say, to Mojave, could be as big as 2.3 gigs in size, and it has to be all or nothing, eg it has to be 100% complete to work, using Ethernet would be the way to go, and definitely the wiser choice to make. You'd also have to go into system preferences, then network, and change your network over from wifi to Ethernet, and connect the cable from the output Ethernet socket of your modem to the Ethernet port on the back of your iMac. then maybe try to do that update.

good luck
