My settings app has a 1 on it meaning that there’s a software update available. But when I click on it, it says software is up to date. Anyone else seeing this? I have a XS Max

Beyond the suggestions provided by Chris, if that badge won't go away, I would try also this procedure:
Sign out from your Apple ID, restart your iPhone, then sign back in to your Apple ID.
Many times it helps.

That is the latest iOS, unless you are participating in the beta program. If you tap on Settings, does the number appear in the Software Update section, or somewhere else? Can you open Settings and get a screenshot of where the number actually appears there? Be sure to redact any personal information in the image.
It would be better if you can please post a screenshot, in order to understand the phenomenon better.
If you go to Settings>General>About>Version, what is the version of iOS currently on your iPhone?
12.4
I'm sorry, but I do not see the number badge anywhere there. It would show by General if it was an iOS update. Do you see the number badge anywhere but the home page like you posted earlier?
It’s works
Thanks
Glad it helped.
