high sierra bootcamp issues

I have a iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) with a new 1TB SSD and a fresh install of High Sierra (10.13.6). I am trying to use Bootcamp to install Windows 10 to a new "BOOTCAMP" partition. I am using a modified copy of Bootcamp Assistant - with plist edits to allow my Model (iMac12,2) to run. Like many others in this forum I am running into the MBR/GBT issue. I have not run the "gdisk" solution - based on comments by LonerT who called out potential issues with 2011 models. I was able to have BCA create a BOOTCAMP partition (MS-DOS (FAT32)). He mentioned that one would need to install Windows 8.1 from a DVD using the standard BCA. Since I have the partition created, should I be able to boot to an Win 10 DVD and install to the drive? I have also seen where other have erased the partition - leaving it as free space for the installer to format - but the posts have mentioned that the startup feature from BCA is lost on both sides - need to hold Option down to select drive. Are there any other options that preserve that functionality?

thanks

On your model, the built-in Optical drive and a physical DVD is used to install W7/W8.1. Using a USB installer leads to more future issues. If your internal drive is fully functional, it is much simpler.

W10 is not supported due to a lack of certified drivers for Apple hardware, but generic drivers can work, with limited functionality.

If you already have a partition and a MBR in place, burn the W10 ISO to a DVD-R SL blank disc, and insert the disc and boot and hold Opt to install W10.

My recommendation is to instal W8.1, install BC drivers, and then run an in-place upgrade to W10, which allows the functioning Apple drivers to be grandfathered. You do not need to activate W8.1.

Loner T, thanks for the quick response. I will go the safe route that you suggest - 8.1 with DVD , then in place upgrade to Win 10.

Just to be safe, I will clear out the partion I have now and move back to the original unaltered version of BCA. I am currenty away from my iMac - would you know if the older BCA versions work with the burned DVD?
