Your USB cable can cause this error.

Also, if you are using a USB hub between the printer and the Mac then this has also been known to cause the error.

Another point to note is that for OS X 10.6 you need to be using v2.10 of the UFR2 driver. Earlier versions of this driver have either been incompatible or unstable with this latest OS.

Hello Hans,

Sorry to read none of the suggestions helped. I now recommend you look at deleting the Canon UFR2 from your Mac and then reinstalling it. If you open Finder you can delete the following folders and files. This information is from the Canon UFR2 v2.10 Mac User Guide.

Mac HD > Library > Printers > Canon > UFR2
Mac HD > Library > Launch Agents > jp.co.canon.UFR2.BG.plist
Mac HD > Library > Printers > PPDs > Contents > Resources > en.lproj > CNTD **Z*2.ppd.gz

(where * indicates the printer model and 2 indicates the language of driver used)

With all these files deleted and trash emptied, unplug the USB cable to the MF4370dn and restart the Mac. Then run the installer for the v2.10 driver and when it has completed, reconnect the MF4370dn USB cable and open System Preferences > Print & Fax to add the printer queue.

Hi PAHU,

Many thanks!

I was successful in deleting the first one (Mac HD > Library > Printers > Canon > UFR2), but did not find the two last ones in the mentioned directories.

Regarding: Mac HD > Library > Printers > PPDs > Contents > Resources > en.lproj > CNTD **Z*2.ppd.gz I could not find CNTD

😟

This would suggest you did not have the UFR2 v2.x driver installed. If you were using the older UFR2 v1.80 driver, which works fine on 10.5 but not on 10.6, then this would explain those particular PPDs not being on your Mac. Anyway, now that you have removed the UFR2 folder, you can install the v2.10 driver to see if that resolves the issue.

Ok I have a similar problem with a MF4370dn and have followed the steps above as well as played ping-pong (with me as the ball) between Canon and Apple support; to no avail.
The situation
1. A brand, new MacPro with 10.6.4 cannot print via USB
I assume that the Snow Leopard Graphics update is included with the new MacPro.
The latest security update is not.
I noted that the icon for the printer looks like an inkjet printer.
2. A MacBookPro and a MacBook CAN print via USB (both 10.6.4)
No Graphics update
No security update
The printer icon is different; looks like a laserprinter icon
All three print drivers were updated using the same install software, in fact from the same .dmg file.
Is it possible that the Graphics update created an incompatibility with the Canon printer driver?

I don't believe so. I performed the Graphics update August 18th and I'm still printing to my MF4380dn.

If the printer icon for the MF4370dn queue looks like an inkjet printer then it sounds like the incorrect printer model was selected during the queue creation. When you create a queue for a Canon UFRII device, the Print Using menu will not auto-complete. Instead you have to manually locate the UFRII driver using the "Select printer software" menu and searching for the respective Canon model.

If you were to select the current print queue and then open the Options & Supplies option, under the Driver tab will be the current printer driver being used. For your model it should show "Canon MF4360-4390 UFRII LT (US)". If it shows a different model, then delete this queue and add the queue again, ensuring you select the correct printer driver. If it is showing the correct driver but still displays an incorrect printer icon then please reply.

Hmmm. Can't remember ever seeing this before. So I suggest you try resetting the printing system (if you haven't done so already). Here's the steps...

1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse (or right click if supported).
4. Click "Reset printing system ..."
5. Restart your Mac

This will remove your print queues but not your printer drivers. So you will only need to add your printer queue/s again.

Good luck.

Hi PAHU,

Require you assistance with regards to the installation of the Canon MF4370dn. I am having problems with both the Ethernet and USB connection to my Airport Express which is part of a larger network of Time Capsule and Airport Extreme.

After installing the latest update v2.15 downloaded from the Canon Asia Pac website, followed the installation guide, I am still unable to have bi-directional printing (unable to access duplex printing). In addition, I did this on both my Macbook Pro and iMac. But both are unable to access the printer driver. Is there an issue with my Airport setup?

I am perplex by this. Is there a way for this function to work?
