Greetings Delt2212,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! I understand you're curious if Emergency SOS is available with iPod touch.

Emergency SOS is available only with iPhone and Apple Watch. You can read more details regarding Emergency SOS from the following support article: Use Emergency SOS on your iPhone - Apple Support

Kind regards.

The iPod is NOT a phone. It can't communicate when it is not connected to wi-fi. Even then it can't call 911 because it is not a phone. You could try the Skype app via wi-fi in your house. Perhaps you could reach 911 that way. If that does not work, the only solution is to get your kids an actual cellphone (or keep your landline).

In addition to the warning from bobjbkln about the iPod not being a phone, you should bear in mind that if the emergency causes a loss of mains power to your house, the Wi-Fi will not work, even for Skype.

I assume that in the USA your phone network is like the UK, in that the landline is powered from the incoming line and not by your house supply, so in the event of loss of mains power to the house, the landline should still work. However, you also need to bear in mind that if the phone connected to that landline requires local mains power (for a cordless phone for example), then once again, loss of power to the house will render the landline unusable.

To ensure that people in the house can call 911 (or you to let you know the power has gone out), you need a landline with a self-powered phone connected to it, or a mobile phone (cell phone). You may need to show your kids how to use a landline!
