An 8-year old iPad 2nd generation ( iPad 2 ) is incapable of running iOS 12 and any other future iOS versions.

Its internal hardware in too old, woefully underpowered, and incompatible with current and future iOS versions.

If you need an iPad that can run the latest and greatest versions of iOS, as well as, the most current apps available, then, you will need to purchase a new iPad from Apple or a discounted, refurbished iPad from Apple’s Refurbished & Clearance section of Apple’s Website.

You can't. That device was introduced 8 years ago now and is too old, too under powered and completely incapable of running the now required 64 bit architecture for the newer iOS levels.

After these many years, you've had a good run, but if you want the latest version of iOS, you need to get a newer iPad.

Unfortunately no and you wouldn't want to if you could. The iPad 2 is too under-powered to run IOS 12 properly.
