New purchase - Apple watch 4

Hi everyone, I will soon be retiring my old apple watch series 0 to buy a new apple watch 4 (I believe in the cellular version). I wanted to understand if, once purchased, I will have to initialize the old app watch or if I can simply turn it off. Thanks in advance!
