The voice memo stops recording suddenly

Hi, 


I noticed a thread relating to the Voice Memo malfunction, where the voice memo stops recording suddenly. I have an iPhone X, and I am running in the problem almost every time I am recording.


I am recording very offen critical meetings.


Once I checked the recording several times throughout to ensure it was recording, which it was. But in the end of a meeting the voice recording seems to be stopped (the phone jumped to the main window) and the recording was stopped by it self during the last part of the meeting. I am not touching the phone at all.


Why is this happening?


I updated my phone with newest IOS and all apps fully updated.

The iCloud suddenly worked. I think there have been a central server problem at Apple.


So the problem with Voice Recorder suddenly stops is still a problem. It stops may due to the iPhone locks. SO annoying. Apple please fix this problem.

Thanks for letting us know you'll take some time to observe what happens when notifications come in while you're recording. Regarding syncing with iCloud you can use these steps to toggle syncing off and then on to see if your new voice memos start to load:


  • Tap Settings > Your Account > iCloud
  • Scroll to Voice Memos and tap to disable, wait a moment, then re-enable Voice Memos
  • Make sure you're connected to a strong Wi-Fi source and give some time for the memos to sync before verifying they're in iCloud.


You can also use the steps in this resource to sync with iTunes or save the memos to iCloud Drive: Share and sync recordings in Voice Memos on iPhone

Thanks a lot but sorry I already tried that many times. It make no changes. All my devices Mac, iPhone and iPad are not syncing Voice Memos to iCloud. I tried to re-enable sync to iCloud on all devices without any changes.


Still all recordings done on each device is on that specific device and not in iCloud.


I tried the sync with cable from iPhone to iTunes works but this function is not very useful as I am using all my devices all the time.


Btw I have manually deleted ALL recordings on all devices and there were a LOT :-( 6 GB It have also not helped anything.


When I make new recordings they stay only on the specific device and not syncing to the iCloud :-(

Thanks again for getting back to us so quickly with those details after trying different steps. Based on the steps you've taken so far and the behaviors that are occurring, I'd recommend removing and reinstalling the Voice Memos app:


"Delete a built-in app from your device

    1. On your iOS device, touch and hold the app lightly until it jiggles. If the app doesn't jiggle, make sure that you're not pressing too hard.
    2. Tap on the app, then tap Delete. 
    3. Press the Home button to finish.

If you have an Apple Watch, deleting an app from your iPhone also deletes that app from your Apple Watch.


Restore a built-in app that you deleted

    1. On your iOS device, go to the App Store.
    2. Search for the app. Make sure that you use the exact name of the app. Find the correct name of built-in apps.
    3. Tap  to restore the app.
    4. Wait for the app to restore, then open it from your Home screen.

If you have an Apple Watch, restoring an app to your iPhone also restores that app to your Apple Watch."


Delete built-in Apple apps on your iOS 12 or later device or Apple Watch


After these steps test for both long recordings being stopped and if you're able to successfully sync to iCloud. If you continue to have trouble, reach out to Apple for further assistance: Contact Apple Support

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand that you're experiencing the Voice Memos app quitting in the middle of a recording and returning to the Home screen on your iPhone. I know it's important to capture information in the Voice Memos app; I'd like to help. Since you mention seeing that the app has closed when the recording stops, I'd recommend using the steps in this guide: If an app unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open


I'd recommend verifying that your existing memos have synced with iCloud or that you have a recent backup before removing and reinstalling the Voice Memos app.


If you continue to see the same behavior after using the resource above, please provide the following details:


Do you notice any calls come in or missed call notifications when your voice memos are interrupted?


Does there seem to be a certain time limit that the voice memos are stopping at?


Are you able to successfully record and save shorter memos?

I just noticed one problem before I tried deleting the app from the iPhone following your procedure. So even that iCloud sync is enabled I have on the iPhone 6,94 GB Voice Memos but on iCloud I only have about 2 GB and a lot of the recordings from August are missing on iCloud.


So I need to sync before I can reinstall the Voice Memos APP. Do you know how I can force the sync without deleting any recordings?


About if I noticed any certain time or something that might interrupt the recording. Well I am getting like 200 notices during the day so I have not noticed it yet. But let me try to make some test recording and I will try to focus on the interruptions.
