I keep getting message saying that a new software update is available for my older iPad. 9.3.6 is available. But when I try to “install now”, the daisy just spins. Why I try install later, the download also doesn’t complete. No error messages. On my WiFi, but no data plan. Capacity 56.3 GB, 303 available. Tried restarting.
Several others have had the same experience. The solution which works is to connect your iPad to your computer with iTunes running and do the update there.

As long as your wife's Macbook runs iTunes, you can use it to update the iOS on your iPad.
Unfortunately, I currently don’t have a pc. I recently retired, so I had to turn over all my equipment to my agency. I really should get a laptop, I suppose, if only to set up wireless routers around the house and troubleshoot LAN wiring. My wife has a Mac Book . But I have a hard time figuring out that approach.
