Sound problems On iMac

I have no sound on iMac except on startup i get a chime sound, I do not see any internal speakers listed in sound preferences. no other speakers or head phones connected- plus i get no sound from head phone jack. Is Soundcard dead on Logic board? should i re install OS X ? I do get sound from a bluetooth device however? All help would be appreciated. Francis
