I keep getting this popup message from Norton saying that The computer "224.0.0.251" is attempting to connect tot Spotify.

Any ideas what it could be?

I don't know. But I do know this, you do NOT want Norton on your Mac! Uninstall it as per the developer's instructions.

No Anti-Virus software or so-called “cleaning” apps are needed or recommended for Mac OS. They can conflict with Mac's own built-in security. At best they will slow your Mac by using unnecessary resources and at worst will bork your entire system. Your Mac has all the built-in protection you need. And Norton is one of the worst!

Running Norton or any 'windows credible' AV product on MacOS is a recipe for disaster.

In all seriousness it's going to conflict with what MacOS already is doing to protect itself and Apple does not share that info with anyone. The likelihood of causing issues rather than solving any has been validated on these forums many times over.

If you must run Norton be aware it is going to be more of a burden than a benefit and it may lead you into a rabbit hole of false positives.

Common sense. There are no viruses for Mac and any other type of malware would need to be installed, so you would know when you needed to authenticate. But you could be tricked into allowing a malicious software, if it was "disguised" as some thing you wanted. This won't happen if you only download from trusted sources like the AppStore or from indentified developers.

If you do ever suspect that there is malware on your Mac Malwarebytes. is the only software recommended by Apple Support folks. It was developed by one of our own colleagues here in ASC and is about the most proven anti-malware software for Mac.
