Web browsers keep crashing and MacBook Pro keeps restarting
I have an old (late 2008) MacBook Pro that's still running El Capitan (because I cannot upgrade to a newer OS on the machine). Lately, web browsers keep crashing on it (no matter which browser I use – Firefox, Safari, Chrome), and, occasionally, the computer itself shuts down and restarts for no reason. Fearing a major software problem, I clean installed the OS, wiped the hard disk clean, and downloaded fresh copies of the browsers, but the problem remains.
Now I fear that the fact that the clean install did not solve the problem might mean that it's a hardware (and thus unfixable) problem. Does anybody else have a problem of all types of web browsers crashing and the computer shutting down and restarting repeatedly on an old MacBook Pro running El Capitan?
