Messenger

It could be an issue with the App, but let's try a couple things:

Force close Messenger, ** double tapping your home button on your iPad to bring up the app switcher. Swipe the app and any other apps upwards to fully close it.

Next, reboot your iPad by pressing and holding BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time (keep holding past the swipe to power off) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go.

Once you sign back in to your iPad see if what you want to work does. If it doesn't, it would be time to reach out to the App Developer to see if there's an issue with the App.
