How to use multimedia content on Libre Office since Perian no longer exist

One year ago I moved from an old Mountain Lion iMac to a new Mac with Sierra/High Sierra. I used to make for my job slide shows presentations with Libre Office Impress, containing mp3 audios and avi videos. On the new mac my old slide shows do not work anymore, since the multi media content (which is in a folder associated with the file) is not read. Apparently the reason is the lack of Perian codecs in new mac os. Of course I use VLC to play back any sort of videos, but it seems that Libre Office, not having an internal media player, rely on Quick Time, but Quick Time do not read anymore my avi files.

1) Is this assomption correct ?

2) Is there any way to make Libre Office work with other codecs sources ?

3) Am I the only one having this problem ? (no solutions found in mac forums...)

p.s. Yes, I could use Microsoft PPT for new presentations, but I cannot export in that format the old ones...

If anyone can help, thank you in advance !!

F.

I suppose you could install QuickTime 7 (alongside QuickTime 10) to bring back some of the old functionality, but that isn’t future-proof, as QuickTime 7 has been abandoned for 4 (v7.6.6) or 9 years (QuickTime 10 introduction), depending on your point of reference. QuickTime 7 will not run on future versions macOS, starting with 10.15 Catalina.

Download QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later

The issue is with the AVI format, which is very dated by now. If you can, convert these files to MP4.

Legacy formats is a problem in almost any field dealing with digital documents, where old files need to be accessible.

I installed the same version but when I choose INSERT AUDIO VIDEO (or click the video icon at the center of the page) in the following window the mp4 and mp3 files appear grey (so that I can't even select them!). The avi files appear correctly but if I choose one, then it will not be read inside the slide. Thank you anyway for your experience.

p.s. I just tried Apache Open Office 4.1.6 (which is not exactly the same as Libre Office but an older version of the same project) and everything works: mp4, mp3, avi files. It's a real mistery to me...
