Safe mode
My iMac will not start in safe mode. The progress bar goes 95% across the screen and stops. Nothing happens.

Does the iMac startup normally?
Have you tried using a USB keyboard?
(Shift key's the same on generic and windows keyboards)

(go to Disk Utility and see if you can Repair your Macintosh HD)
Follow the direction, at > Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support
(it could take anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes to finish and startup in Sane Mode)
