What do I need to do to hear text sounds and to have WAZE work on my iPhone 6s when I am driving my car?

Two problems:

1. when I am in my car, the text notification sound is not made; I am always surprised that I have texts waiting to be opened when I get out of my car.
2. when I drive, I use WAZE but it will not talk or even give me driving directions. It operates if I am using it in someone else’s car

What do I need to do to hear text sounds and to have WAZE work when I am driving my car?
