reset lost password and lost all data- can i recover it

Hi There,

I forgot the password for my mac so followed a tutorial on YouTube to reset it. It said it would simply ask me for a new password, however it looks like i must have set it up as a new user.

Is there anyway to recover what was originally on there? I basically need all my pictures that i had stored on there. Randomly there is a video i had downloaded on there but the desktop is completely clear and looks like nothing else has been saved.

If you created a new local admin user, then go to the User & Groups System Preferences, unlock the panel and select your original account. On the right side you should see a "Reset Password ..." button to reset the password on your original account.

Otherwise you will need to describe the steps you followed so we know what you actually did.
