Can I use eSim even if I am on an ATT Next Plan and my phone is not unlocked ?
I received a call from an kind agent at ATT and they told me, that once you go out on a trip, you can use the eSim technology, even with the LOCKED device.
So I guess it is all good.

The eSim is not dependent on plan or lock status.
You can use the eSim even if your iPhone is locked, though the service you get will have to be from the carrier the iPhone is locked to. In your case you can use the eSim with AT&T.
If you want to use the eSim with a different carrier than AT&T then you must get your iPhone unlocked.
