Lost files after disabling iCloud

I decided to change my Mac's (High Sierra) iCloud settings so it would stop uploading my files since this made it impossible for me to access them without internet connection.

However, immediately I disabled the iCloud, all files on my Mac disappeared INCLUDING new files I had created few minutes ago that were never uploaded unto iCloud. I have all the files that were previously uploaded in my iCloud but I cannot find any of the recently created files.

Please is there a way to get these files back?

Uploading of files https://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmad632d1df2 will occur when you have turned on iCloud Drive https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT204025

If you uncheck the box of iCloud Drive from system preferences > iCloud if you try to upload recent files they will not save in the iCloud server ( hence can't be find out any where ) .

And as per this article https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mac-help/mchl1a02d711/10.14/mac/10.14

When iCloud Desktop and Documents is turned on, your folders and files may appear with status indicators next to the folder or filenames in Finder windows.

So the end conclusion is don't uncheck the box of iCloud Drive , and desktops and documents .
