iPhone 6S: which microphone for voice memos?

Hi

This question has been asked and answered 100 times, but the answers seem contradictory and often not plausible. So, again:

  • Which microphone is used by the Voice Memo app (and WhatsApp) on the iPhone 6S? Where is ist exactly and can it be easily changed (I have already repaired iPhones)?

Background information: everything works fine (Siri, phone calls, videos) except that.

Another question: this 6S discharges its battery very fast, even just after boot and even when in flight mode (then maybe 3 % per hour). This is definitely not a software issue (factory reset done) and probably not a battery issue, as it is new. Is this a known problem, what can cause it?

Thanks!

Patrick

I did the following:

  • identify the microphone using the app "Rec lite" ("bottom" was dead)
  • i noticed that with the headset, the microphone worked (because the iPhone used the one on the headset)
  • replaced the jack/lightning/microphones assembly as well as the battery

Now the microphone works and the battery autonomy is normal again.

I suspect that the battery was not the problem (it was new and shown 100% capacity), but that something in the module I replaced used constantly current - but I will never be sure because I changed the battery at the same time.

1: iPhone uses the microphone to the left of the charging port on the bottom. if you connect headphones with a microphone, it uses that microphone.

2: try going to Settings>Battery>Battery Health and if it does not say "Peak Performance Capability" or the percentage is low, you may need a new battery. I had this problem on my 6s as well.
