MacBook Air Mail

When I click on the mail app on my MacBook, It doesn't open. The word next to the apple in the top left changes to "Mailbox" but the app won't open. If I get a mail notification I can open it, but I can not go back and look at all of my mail. I can get to the mail via my iPhone or through google. I have tried restarting my laptop but it has not been working.

Give the following a try:

  • Temporarily disconnect your Mac from the network. (Note: We don't want the Mail app to try to download messages for each of your accounts at this point.)
  • Launch the Mail app, and then, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information.
    • Note: Of course this step, & the following steps, would assume that the Mail app will now launch when it didn't before
  • For each of your email accounts, disable the Enable this account option.
  • Close the Accounts pane, and then, close the Mail app.
  • Relaunch the Mail app, and then, reconnect your Mac to the network.
  • Return to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information, and then, re-enable one of your email accounts. Allow it to download any messages. It should be completed doing so when you see the Checking for Mail... disappear in the lower-left corner of the Mail app's window.
  • If successful, re-enable the next account and continue doing so one-at-a-time when successful.
