My MacBook Air won't let me sign in to my Apple ID without putting credit/debit card details in

As the title reads my Mac wont let me sign into my Apple ID without entering card details in and I don't want to. after I enter my my billing address it just takes the option away for not entering a card and sent me the link to the support page. I am really confused so if anybody could help that would be very helpful.

If you created an Apple ID with a payment method, and you want to continue to use that Apple ID, then you will need to keep that information up to date: Change, add, or remove Apple ID payment methods. You may subsequently remove that payment method if you choose: Create or use an Apple ID without a payment method.
