Update early 2015 macbook pro to newest os?

I have an older MacBook Pro (early 2015), currently running High Sierra, with an Intel Core i5 at 2.7 GHz, 2 cores, L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB, L3 Cache: 3 MB, Memory: 8 GB. My on-board hard drive is almost full.

Can I safely update to the latest OS, without using too much more hard drive space, and without suffering too many performance problems b/c of my computer's old brain?

Many thanks!
