I've rec'd those too. The password was a very old one I used on a web suite probably 15 years ago. That tells me these guys steal the info from poorly protected web sites and then make you think they have access to your computer. Still, if the password they showed is the same as a current one, change it.
I’ve changed my password and then I connected to internet, my Mac (2013 model) is just not like before. Its very slow and safari is not opening at all. I tried shutting down it, its taking too long than ever. How do I check whether its hacked? Also the memory is almost full (480gb out of 500), could this be a reason for slower processing. I am worried a bit..
But my password what they mentioned in the email is correct. Thats why I suspect my macbook may have been hacked. In order to check and remove any malicious software, provide any ideas if any.

Absolutely, especially of you have a small amt of RAM. Clean off what you don't need.
