spacebar and extra spaces

I have a MacBook Pro. I am running the Mojave 10.14.6 OS.

Lately, when I am typing, the spacebar will add extra spaces. I have changed settings under System preferences but that hasn't helped.

It is driving me crazy. I end up having to fix my documents which take so much time.

It has started only recently and I'm wondering if it has to do with a recent update?

See if you qualify for the free Apple repair program

If you do not have one of these laptops, then try an external keyboard. If the issue happens with the external keyboard then you have a software or configuration issue. If the external keyboard works, then your laptop's internal keyboard has an issue and needs service.
