Apple TV RAM question

I'm paying Verizon $170/month for cable. I've spent hours on YouTube & Google researching cutting the cord. I can't decide what streaming box to get - Apple Tv, Roku, not fire TV Stick & not Nvidia Shield.

I know that one can't attach a thumb drive or an SD card to the Apple TV. I know that it comes with either 32GB or 64GB of RAM. That's for storing the downloaded apps, right? Do you have any idea how many apps can be stored in 32GB; 64GB?

The 32 and 64gb are storage space, not RAM. RAM for an Apple TV 4K is 3GB.

The amount of apps that can fit in 32 or 64 GB of storage will depend on the size of the apps in question.

But as a general average at around 100MB per App you can fit around 300 apps in the 32Gb and 600 apps in the 64GB version. Games can be much larger than that however. So the amount of games will generally be less than the amount of apps you can fit.

I have a 32Gb model and a 64Gb model for different TVs, and have not run out of space on either of them.

My main reason for choosing Apple TV over Roku was my iTunes movie library. I have many movies from iTunes that would be unavailable on the Roku.

Outside of that, yes you can get one of each and see which one works better for you. You have 14 days to return the Apple TV to Apple for a full refund if you don't like it.

When I decided to cut the cord (I haven't done it yet.), I spent hours on YouTube & Google researching the different streaming boxes. I ruled out Amazon because they're Amazon-obsessed. There's only one row of apps. Everything else is Amazon-related. Even search results place Amazon-related searches at the top of the list. The Nvidia Shield is the same price as the AppleTV 4K 64GB. I don't particularly like the Shield home page. I don't like the Shield remote. It requires 2 coin cells which are expensive to replace. I read online that it's possible to change the volume just by touching the volume slider. Like Amazon, there's only one row of apps. But each app has its own channel! There's a Youtube app AND a YouTube channel. The Mi Box S doesn't have good reviews. So, that leaves either the Apple TV 4K or the Roku. I can't decide! I do have 2 TVs. I can get one of each!
