Mid 2011 IMac 21.5 inch. Originally 4 g. 2 2g chips in top slot. Have ordered 2 4g chips to upgrade to 12g. Is it necessary to switch the 2gs at the top and move them into the bottom slots or can I just install the two 4 Gig chips in the bottom slots?
Put the new RAM side-by-side in the open slots.
No, leave the old RAM where it is and populate the empty slots with the new RAM.
Your welcome. When you puchase, please only use Crucial.com or macsales.com, why because iMacs are sensitive to using quality RAM and both vendors provide high quality products, reasonable prices and have excellent service. In short there is no reason to not use them.
