Cannot update apps

Anyone tried not being able to update their apps, before having updated a payment method?

When I press update app, it directs me to the “update payment method”

When I do, it say “not succesfull”

Removed my money on the card, so they can’t take any.

What is going on?

Had iphone for 6-7 years and never seen this.

I am so sick of iphones, this will be the last. Its an 8 plus.

The store requires a payment method that can be correctly charged to access the store services including downloading free apps and updating apps. If it stopped being verified for any reason (usually because it was unable to be charged for something), then it will require re-verification and will pop up the screen until its verified. If you have a pending purchase, it will need to be completed as part of the verification process.

You removing any balance on your payment method caused it to no longer be verified as it could no longer be charged.

Once the payment method has been correctly verified it can be removed, and it should not ask for it again.

Note that for verification, Apple may place an authorization hold on it. This hold is reversed shortly after verification is completed.

iTunes should not charge your card for anything unless you initiate it.

When downloading Apps its important to understand if they have any recurring subscriptions or in-app purchases. Both of those are detailed in the App's description and details.

You can control free trials and recurring subscriptions by following the steps here: View, change, or cancel your subscriptions - Apple Support

I have been using an iTunes account for many years and have never been charged for anything I did not actually initiate myself.

When I download apps that may have recurring subscriptions, I always check the description, and then go and turn off the auto-renewal as per the link above if I know I won't want it.

As long as you have good management of your account, iTunes should not be applying strange or unwanted charges.
