Trying to access email and phone keeps saying IMAP password incorrect? Is this not the same as my iCloud password??

Try keying in my password used to set up my email account which is similar to the password used for my Yahoo email account. Respond is "incorrect password for IMAP"
I created my Apple ID password similar to my Yahoo email password on a iPhone which has been given to me by my son.
Could the IMAP password be the one used by my son?
