How do I get my macbook itunes 12.8 to recognize my ipod?

My Itunes 12.8.150 won't recognize my ipod - first time this has happened, have tried 3 different plugs, says "because an invalid response was received from the device."

Thanks

thanks for your quick response -- I'm using High Sierra - but I did finally figure it out, if anyone else has this question.

I tried going thru Itunes to update but couldn't find where, so I went online and found the latest update 12.8.3 and downloaded it and installed it -- then it recognized my Ipod touch. :)

Thanks turingtest2
