Whenever I use my laptop, I have noticed that the fan is very loud

I got my MacBook pro 4 years ago and its in good condition. whenever I use my laptop, I have noticed that the fan is very loud, I could be reading an article and suddenly the fan starts roaring. I was wondering if there's anything I do to stop that?
